New Online Poker Sites Begin Testing Today in Pennsylvania

0

Online poker is now over a year old in Pennsylvania, with the only game in town being the PokerStars brand. For quite a long time, the brand had no competition due to the fact that no other operator was in the mix. This is all about to change as BetMGM Poker and Borgata Poker start testing this morning.

Doug Harbach has confirmed the testing phase to PlayPennsylvania, with services starting at 9 a.m. on April 27. BetMGM will offer services through Hollywood Casino Grantville while Borgata will offer poker under its Borgata casino app. The casino operates under the Rivers Philadelphia Online Gambling License.

More poker game options

With the launch, online poker players in Pennsylvania will have even more access. Of course, both brands have to pass the testing phase, but they are expected to do so with flying colors. Both sites run on the same platform, so they will have a similar look and feel. They will also share player pools so that players Borgata will mix with BetMGM while they are playing gambling games and tournaments.

Both sites are expected to resemble their New Jersey counterparts. Cash games and tournament options will be plentiful. Players can look forward to sit & gos and multi-table tournaments, including special options like rounds and fast forward.

As for the types of games, both should offer No-Limit Hold’em, Fixed-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha. In the latter format, both top and top / bottom should be offered.

Will players switch to new brands or will they stay with PokerStars?

With two new brands in the mix, will PokerStars remain the market leader in online poker in Pennsylvania? Players will most likely open an account for both BetMGM and Borgata because they offer new players welcome bonuses. It’s a good way to give the site a try and earn some bonus money. However, players will only continue to play at the sites if they find them more attractive than PokerStars.

Because there will now be competition, more promotions are expected to be on the table, and you have some reward programs to consider. Players want to have access to such incentives, so this will be a key factor in determining which captures the majority of the market.

The testing phase should be complete by May, so hopefully the entire month can be used as a comparison to see which poker room is preferred. However, it will take a little while for the new one to fade away and for us to really see what the preferred option is in the state.
