UK Poker Sites – Online Poker For UK Players

0

[ad_1]

Gambling first became regulated in the UK in 1960 with the passage of the Betting and Gambling Act, which allowed for a large-scale expansion of land-based gambling in the country. In turn, this led to the creation of a large number of betting shops, with ONLY 10,000 opened in the first 6 months of the law’s passage. These betting shops included even smaller bingo halls and casinos, although they were limited to only 20 gaming machines at most during this time. It will be decades later before there is any semblance of UK poker sites existing in the region.

The 1968 Gaming Act allowed even larger casinos to be built. Gambling flourished in the country for decades, but the passage of the Gaming Act of 2005 allowed for an even greater expansion of land-based casinos and also legalized online gambling for its citizens. In essence, the new law threw out the last bastions of its reserves and opened up the gaming market completely, provided it was properly tested, licensed and regulated.

The advent of online gambling has certainly complicated matters a bit from a regulatory standpoint, and the 2005 Act did seek to provide some protection for UK gamers, but it relied widely measure on other regulators to do so. This changed with the passage of the last gambling laws, in 2014, which take full control of the regulation of UK gamblers, as we will see.

Best UK Online Poker Sites

Changes to UK iGaming regulations

Back in the days before iGaming, the location of the gaming business was not normally an issue. Since everything was terrestrial, the law simply stipulated that the game itself had to take place in a physical location and of course the location was somewhere in the UK.

With internet gambling, providers were often located in other countries and subject to the laws and regulations of other countries. This raised some concerns, in particular that these companies located outside the UK were not required to pay taxes or licensing fees to UK authorities, but could still offer casino games to UK residents.

Among other things, this has put UK based gambling companies at a disadvantage. William Hill, the UK’s largest gambling company, has fled to other jurisdictions for a more tax-friendly structure.

In addition, it also created a lack of transparency and control over the gambling games in which UK residents participated and which was not regulated by them, but in other places, such as Gibraltar. It wasn’t that Gibraltar and other regulators weren’t doing a good job, but UK regulators wanted more control and access to more information than the current system allowed.

Thus, the new gambling laws require that anyone offering games of chance to UK residents, whether land-based or online, to obtain a license from the UK Gambling Commission. There was at least some doubt as to the willingness of foreign sites to comply with this, as this was to some extent voluntary, but the reception was very good, and many poker sites were very keen to ask and to obtain a license. .

It’s a great program for gamers, and the government is actually looking to help gamers play online, rather than trying to hinder or even prevent them from playing, as is the case in many others. places, like the United States. for example. The government has control over things without limiting the game to just a few sites; things are wide open here with all the best choices still available.

How does the UK Gambling Commission help poker players?

While online gaming regulators are generally quite reputable, the new UK regulations are the most protective in the world, so putting gamers first is a given. And while a lot of the stuff he discusses isn’t something poker players typically have trouble with, like stricter rules on communication about bonuses and the like, more transparency certainly doesn’t hurt.

One of the goals of this new law is to help manage problem gambling more effectively, although it is more of a social problem than one that affects the majority of gamblers, but problem gambling is one of the downsides that people see with the game.

Therefore, if it is better managed, it makes the industry itself more beautiful. Poker players in UK have enjoyed a very friendly atmosphere towards poker and the game in general, and surely want this to continue, so anything that helps them is certainly beneficial.

A real advantage for players is that, since these regulations are more stringent, it will better ensure that sites authorized by the UK Gambling Commission have a high reputation, and players can therefore play on a licensed site with an extreme level of confidence.

If something goes wrong, it is also more comforting to know that instead of seeking help from a foreign regulator, all you have to do is turn to the UK authorities, who jealously guard and protect the interests of players. British online.

These new laws are therefore certainly welcomed by players, and in fact the attractiveness of the new law to players was probably the main reason why so many online poker sites have applied for and obtained a license in the UK, although they are still able to offer the game in the UK without one, it was considered valuable enough to obtain to make their poker sites more attractive to UK players.

Do UK poker players have to pay tax on winnings?

Gambling winnings have never been taxed in the UK, and the new laws don’t change that. They only require operators to pay taxes and license fees to the UK government. This increased the cost of their operations there, but the impact was not large enough to deter these companies from voluntarily participating in the new regulatory system.

However, the new law ended up eliminating land-based betting shops, not only placing more restrictions on them, but increasing the tax rate they pay. The UK is now seeing a decrease in these types of establishments in the market as many cannot afford the higher tax. Again, this does not affect the players, as they do not pay tax here [or online] independently.

Most popular poker networks for UK poker players

The question of which online poker sites will have a UK gaming license has been answered, and the answer is pretty much all of the major ones. The UK market is large and too lucrative for these major sites to lose market share to other licensed iGaming game rooms. Each poker room on ANY network must apply for its separate license and be approved before it can begin to share player traffic and manage its operations.

When it comes to poker networks, the iPoker network is the world’s largest in terms of traffic and the third most popular place to play poker in general. The iPoker network is only found behind independent sites such as PokerStars and 888 Poker, both of which are also licensed in the UK.

The second largest poker network, Microgaming, or MPN as it is now known, has many suitable UK poker sites that currently operate here. Poker rooms like BetSafe and Bettson see a fair amount of traffic coming from the UK and all parts of Europe, both shared by similar operations on Microgaming.

Best electronic online poker wallets and other deposit methods for UK players

Credit cards are a very popular way to deposit money at online poker sites, and UK credit cards are easy to use, unlike credit cards in some countries where they may be more restricted. Third-party sites like EntroPay also allow users to get virtual Visa cards, which act like normal credit cards, but without the REAL physical card itself.

Internet e-wallets are also very popular because they allow both easy deposits and withdrawals and are superior to credit cards for this reason. You can, however, link your credit card to your e-wallet and enjoy the best of both worlds. UK poker players can use all major ones including PayPal, Neteller, Skrill and standard wire / wire transfers.

Not all sites accept all payment methods, and they also differ in the minimum deposit requirements for each and may be declined depending on your location as well. Be sure to check the official websites for each chamber you sign up to confirm that you can use specific banking options.

Most popular poker games for UK customers

UK poker players enjoy the full assortment of the most popular poker games. No Limit Texas Hold’em is the king of poker, which of course is available in a variety of different bets, table sizes and tournament buy-ins.

6-max games have been the most popular form of No Limit Hold’em cash for quite some time now, although tournaments and sit and gos have always been very popular too.

Omaha is another popular game among UK gamers, with many pros playing PLO at very high stakes clubs and casinos across the country and across Europe. It’s not prevalent as often as it probably should in most UK venues, but players can normally find 6-max and full ring games around the clock at most major venues.

World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE)

In 2004, after Harrah’s bought the rights to the WSOP, they also bought the London casino operator LCI, which provided them with a launching pad for the birth of the World Series of Poker Europe, or WSOPE.

As of 2007, the WSOPE has been staged in the same format as the WSOP in Las Vegas. This included several bracelet events and of course a big buy-in Main Event which always attracts the biggest names in poker, including Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Phil Hellmuth.

The first WSOPE Main Event winner was Annette Obrestad, who was barely 18 at the time. The more relaxed minimum playing age of 18 is another perk the WSOPE enjoys – and one that has certainly helped Obrestrad in his run for the championship.

The first 4 WSOPE events were held in the UK, but since then that has changed with the next 3 being hosted in France. In 2014 it was decided that this would be held every 2 years, alternating with its sister event in Asia, and therefore there was no championship that year, and in 2015 it was held in Berlin , in Germany.

PA Lottery Launches Keno; Virtual sports and online lottery games on the go

[ad_1]

The first tangible evidence of the game’s expansion emerged this week in Pennsylvania. It’s not online poker yet, nor sports betting nor online casino games. These all arrive on time.

At present, this is a vast expansion for the PA Lottery, another beneficiary of the new law.

In order to modernize its platform and attract younger customers, the lottery is rolling out a full product upgrade. There are new games in store, new ways to play, and new places to play them.

The first remote lottery game, keno, was uploaded just before sunrise on Tuesday.

Keno at points of sale

For those unfamiliar with it, keno is a popular electronic game in casinos across the country. Players choose up to ten numbers from a grid of 80 squares, and a computer randomly draws 20. Payouts are based on the number of places the player matches. Games take place every four minutes, and the 65% return on investment roughly matches the overall winning expectation of the lottery.

As of this week, keno is available at a number of food, beverage, and retail stores statewide. Hundreds of them, in fact.

The lottery is authorized to offer the game through its land-based and electronic platforms, and it extends these authorizations to retailers. Keno requires the installation of a dedicated video monitor, which the lottery will personally hang inside the location. Once live, the owner receives a five percent commission on all money wagered on the site.

general manager of the lottery Drew svitko said to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that more than 500 properties have already made a request to offer the product. And he predicts that number will increase to thousands over time.

The first draw was on Tuesday morning at 5:49 am, and it looks like it’s going to be popular. The lottery has indicated that it sells approximately 8,200 tickets per hour during the lunch hour rush.

Pennsylvania 18th state to offer keno through its lottery, on a budget $ 27 million in the benefit of the first year.

Soon virtual sports

These keno monitors will serve a dual purpose in the near future. In a few months, the lottery will offer virtual sports betting, too much. Some online casinos are already offering the product in the United States – Casino of the Maison du Sucre, for example, but the PA Lottery will be the first state entity to do so.

The virtual PA games will be called Xpress Sports. The lottery expects the format to lead to another $ 13 million to its bottom line this year.

Here is what it looks like:

The provider is Inspired Entertainment Inc., which offers virtual sports to a number of companies.

Once again, a few explanations are in order. Virtual sports are simulated sporting events “Broadcast” by the operator. The quotes are there because they are not real sports shows; these are only numerical simulations. The results are determined by what is essentially a random number generator.

Just like physical sports, virtual sports are perfect fodder for punters. And they are very popular in the existing overseas markets. Bets on simulated events represent as much 20 percent of the total turnover of certain sports betting.

Starting in June, PA Lottery customers will be able to bet on virtual sports alongside keno. The plan is to offer simulations of Soccer games and races events within these same points of sale. As with keno, virtual sporting events can take place every few minutes.

The iLottery app is coming too

The last, and perhaps the most important, is the imminent launch of a ILottery PA App.

Over the next few months, the group will roll out a mobile client allowing customers to play on the go. This would work well with keno and other games that are rated higher electronically.

There’s more to the store than keno, however. The iLottery app will include 15 to 20 electronic games that differ from traditional offers. Here’s how Svitko describes them:

These games are meant to appeal to a new audience. These are much closer to a game like Candy Crush than what people are used to in a game like Powerball. These are meant to be engaging, entertaining, and relevant games.

Svitko expects new games to attract a younger audience and lead to another $ 30 million on the lottery account. As a form of protection for retailers (of which there is almost 10,000), traditional raffle tickets will not initially be available on the iLottery app.

Revenue from ticket sales is used to support state infrastructure Aging of the population. Since its launch in 1972, the lottery has contributed over $ 28 billion in financing.

Online lottery spreads in the Northeast of the United States

0

Legislation to legalize online casino games and online poker made headlines. But it’s another online gaming product that has rather quietly made the most headway in the US: online lottery.

The OLC notice and the online lottery

Requests for New York and Illinois made it possible to broadcast the lottery online. Both states have asked the justice department for legal clarity regarding their online lottery subscription services.

These investigations led to the 2011 legal opinion issued by the Department of Justice Office of the Legal Counsel. But the opinion of the OLC has done more than just rubber subscription sales.

This opened the door to multiple forms of intra-state online gambling. Additionally, it has been a point of contention for the anti-gambling crowd.

The opinion concluded that the scope of the Sons Act 1961 was limited to sports betting, meaning that states could legalize and regulate online casino gambling, lottery and/or poker.

Online lottery available

To date, six states have allowed online lottery sales. A seventh, Minnesotarevoked online sales in 2015. The six include:

  1. Illinois
  2. Michigan
  3. Georgia
  4. Kentucky
  5. Pennsylvania
  6. New Hampshire

Additionally, online subscription services are available in five other states:

  1. New York
  2. North dakota
  3. Maine
  4. Virginia
  5. North Carolina

On the other side of the ledger, only four states have legalized online casino and/or poker gaming during the same period:

  1. Nevada
  2. Delaware
  3. New Jersey
  4. Pennsylvania

First comers to the online lottery

Not only do online lotteries outnumber online casinos, but they also predate the launch of the online poker industry in Nevada by a full year.

The first states to move beyond the subscription model and sell lottery tickets online were Illinois and Georgia. Their sales began in March and November 2012, respectively.

Two other states joined the parade in 2014: Minnesota in February (online sales in Minnesota have since been revoked) and the Michigan Online Lottery in August. In addition to selling raffle tickets, there are instant games that serve as a convenient substitute for online casino games in Michigan and Minnesota.

A fifth state, Kentucky, launched online lottery sales in April 2016.

Based on first-mover states, the online lottery looked like a Midwestern and Southeast phenomenon. This is no longer the case.

Major advances in 2017

Two Northeastern states passed online lottery legislation in 2017: New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. In addition to these states, 2017 also saw New Jersey allow online courier services.

The courier service is not a traditional online lottery, but the basic mechanics of selling and redeeming ticket options make it a de facto online lottery.

More to come in 2018?

Several other Northeastern states could join the growing list of states in 2018: Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

In fact, it’s not out of the question that online lottery will be legal in all three states by the end of the year.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts has been courting online lottery sales since 2014, but after several engagement proposals, the state is still waiting for a definite “yes” before it can set a wedding date.

This could be the year of the Bay State. Here’s why:

Massachusetts has several high profile supporters of the online lottery, including the Treasurer Deb Goldbergwhose office oversees Massachusetts Lottery. The state has also raised concerns that if it does not bring its lottery online, it will be at a disadvantage compared to other states in the region.

Last year, the executive director of the Massachusetts Lottery Michael Sweeney told the Lotteries Commission:

“We face many different kinds of pressure because a lottery and New Hampshire being more aggressive and receiving more power from their state legislature will impact us, and clearly negatively impact income.”

Massachusetts’ northern neighbor passed online lottery legislation last year, and its two southern neighbors have already introduced legislation this year.

If that doesn’t push Massachusetts to the finish line, I don’t know what will.

Connecticut and Rhode Island enter into conversation

Connecticut and Rhode Island are taking their first steps in the online lottery this year. Despite their novelty on the matter, both states already have pending legislation.

The online lottery is one of many potential gaming extensions Connecticut is exploring. A bill was introduced on February 28, putting it on the legislative agenda alongside sports betting and possibly online gambling.

Like Connecticut, Rhode Island isn’t taking anything off the table when it comes to game extensions. An online lottery bill introduced in January is modeled after New Hampshire legislation.

This is an indication that allowing online lottery in the region could very well be a catalyst for legislation in other states.

Nelson Burtnick pleads guilty to online poker case

[ad_1]

Nelson Burtnick is the former director of payment processing for the online poker room Full Tilt Poker. Burtnick has now pleaded guilty to conspiracy which included allegations of money laundering, as well as two counts of accepting funds related to illegal online gambling. Burtnick faces up to five years in prison for each charge, which would equal 15 years behind bars.

Burtnick has been charged with conspiring to conceal payments in order to avoid laws in the United States against online gambling. The former Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars payment processor admitted his guilt in court today. Burtnick said he and others at both companies used a third-party payment processor to conceal payments for U.S. banks to process the transactions.

The former payment processor, a Canadian citizen, told US investigating judge Gabriel Gorenstein of NY that banks in the US would not have processed payments for Full Tilt, which was based in Ireland, if they had. knew the transactions were illegal.

Burtnick said, “We had to do this type of deception to allow American poker players to load their accounts. I knew what I had done was wrong. Burtnick also admitted to using the scheme to cheat the banks while working at PokerStars, then transferred the scheme to Full Tilt Poker.

Prosecutors in the case said billions of dollars in payments made by players in the United States were disguised as payments to non-existent online merchants. The disguises covered a wide variety of products such as flowers, jewelry, golf balls and more. Kelly Currie served as Burtnick’s attorney and declined to comment on Burtnick’s not guilty plea after leaving the courtroom.

Do online lottery sales take away from regular lottery sales?

No. In fact, ticket sales have increased almost every year since Georgia started the lottery. 2017 was one of the years down, as Georgia Lottery ticket sales fell from $ 4.247 billion in 2016 at $ 4.218 billion. However, the decline was more about the 2016 highs than the 2017 lows.

Lottery officials claimed lottery sales in 2016 were unusually high due to a $ 1.6 billion jackpot and an additional day of sales due to the Leap year. Selling tickets online has only helped increase lottery ticket sales across the state.

PA Online Lottery Details Emerge Ahead of Spring Launch

[ad_1]

The authorization of the online lottery was one of the Pennsylvania legislature major gaming legislation last year.

The expansion component of the lottery has been largely overshadowed by the big ticket items, such as online casinos and satellite casinos. But it looks like the online lottery will beat both hands.

the Pennsylvania Lottery expects its online lottery offerings to be up and running by spring, according to an anonymous lottery spokesperson who talked with the Tribune-Review.

This is good news for the state lottery.

After years of sustained growth, lottery revenues fell 3% in 2017. The drop, attributed to aging lottery customers, is not a problem in Pennsylvania. It is felt by states across the country.

Not surprisingly, Pennsylvania is looking to “modernize” lottery offerings. How? ‘Or’ What? By selling lottery tickets and products online.

How has the online lottery worked in other states?

Full-service online lotteries currently exist in four other states (New Hampshire expected to launch an online lottery in early 2018):

The results have been mixed.

Michigan’s online lottery, which serves a state of approximately 10 million people, generated $ 20 million in online sales in the second quarter of 2017, according to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming Lottery Tracking. “Sales” is a misnomer here because the state reports on net earnings (not ticket sales) as sales of lottery products online.

Illinois’ 13 million people generated just $ 6.2 million in the same period. This, also according to E&K tracker.

Several factors contribute to these divergent figures:

  • Instant games are almost equivalent to a legal online casino in MI, while the Illinois Lottery lacks such options;
  • The state heavily markets its lottery online;
  • It offers incentives to open an account online; and
  • It offers good feedback to players (RTP).

[geoip2 region=NJarea][i15-table tableid=28399][/geoip2]

What to expect from the Pennsylvania online lottery

It is not known what type of RTP Pennsylvania will offer. But based on the games available, expect Keystone State to behave more like Michigan than Illinois.

According to the Tribune-Review, Pennsylvania’s online lottery will offer even more games than Michigan’s:

  • Drawing games
  • Instant Win Games
  • Keno
  • Virtual sports

The Pennsylvania Online Lottery will also be available in more locations than Michigan. This includes mobile devices, as well as on top video monitors at physical lottery retailers.

“The lottery is going to put three monitors on the wall here, and people will be able to play keno and sports betting; I will have a mini casino ”, an excited Greensburg News owner Al Lydique told the Tribune-Review.

The state is banking on significant revenues from its online lottery. Like its game expansion package, the Pennsylvania Lottery focuses on online sales, both in terms of product and availability.

By adding online games, the state is giving more options to current players and is likely refreshing its player base by attracting new, younger players.

Eilers & Krejcik Gaming believe Pennsylvania “has the potential to have the biggest iLottery sales within a few years.”

Pennsylvania becomes the fourth US state to legalize online poker

0

This is a developing story.

A big win was declared Thursday for supporters of iPoker and online casinos in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Legislature has passed a landmark bill that will allow online poker, online casino, and daily fantasy sports (DFS) within their state’s borders. Pennsylvania is set to become the fourth state in the United States to license and regulate online gambling.

The amended iGaming bill, H 271, was passed in the Senate on Wednesday evening and sent to the House, where it was the subject of a few hours of debate on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The House then passed the bill on Thursday and Governor Tom Wolf is expected to sign the bill soon. He has ten days to do so before the bill automatically becomes law.

UPDATE: Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has signed the bill, making Pennsylvania the fourth US state to legalize internet gambling.

Whereas Pennsylvania has gained a lot of ground On the iGaming legislation front in 2016 ahead of this year, earlier this month, that optimism faded when budget talks appeared to break down, making Thursday’s victory even sweeter.

Invoice details

In addition to online poker, slots, table games, and DFS, the bill also allows sports betting (if the federal ban is lifted), online lottery sales, tablet gaming in authorized areas of certain airports, video game terminals at licensed truck stops, ten “satellite casinos” and changes to Category 3 casinos to include more slot machines and remove membership fees, with one-time fee.

Tax rates

Tax revenue from online gambling is obviously one of the major benefits states derive from adopting such legislation. While similar to the iGaming bill in New Jersey, a key difference in the bill just passed in Pennsylvania is the effective tax rate for online slots, which is $54. %. This rate is compared to the rate of 17.5% for all iGaming in New Jersey and 16% for Internet poker and table games in Pennsylvania.

The tax rates for sports betting and DFS were adopted at 36% and 15%, respectively. The implication here is that while the prices for poker and other table games seem reasonable, the high tax rates for online slots and sports betting may prove problematic in inducing operators to offer the products, to make profits and develop the industry.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the products offered by state operators. Pappas mentioned that the high tax rate on internet slot machines could impact the number of casinos offering the product and said: “Ultimately this rate needs to come down for Pennsylvania to reach its full potential. revenue from iGaming.”

Licence

As it stands, Pennsylvania’s bill offers three separate licenses for online slots, bank games, and peer-to-peer games like poker. According Play in Pennsylvania, operators can purchase separate licenses for $4 million, while existing PA casino operators can purchase all three licenses for $10 million if they do so within 90 days of license availability. After 120 days, out-of-state operators are allowed to apply for a license.

A victory for all

The bill passed today is proof of the efforts of many people, both inside and outside the legislature.

John Dadsexecutive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), applauded the passage of iGaming legislation in Pennsylvania, which comes four years after New Jersey passed its comprehensive iGaming legislation in 2013.

Pappas said in a statement: “Pennsylvania made the right decision today.

“This is a major victory for consumers who for years have been asking the state to step in and provide meaningful protections. The iGaming Act will also help create new growth opportunities for Commonwealth land-based casinos while providing necessary revenue to the state budget,” Papas continued.

Pappas also highlighted the success iGaming has had in New Jersey and the potential future growth expected in the industry.

“The experience in New Jersey has been nothing short of exceptional. iGaming is operated responsibly by licensed casinos and the technologies they deploy ensure compliance with strict regulatory standards. Moreover, the industry is growing and so is tax revenue. Pennsylvania is now in the driving seat to do even better.

Get involved in the fight

The victory marks a momentous victory for the Poker Players Alliance, which has been at the forefront of the fight for licensed and regulated online poker and iGaming across the United States and particularly in Pennsylvania. APP members have raised their voices through emails, phone calls, media and social media to reach lawmakers, which has proven effective.

With 1.2 million members nationwide and 25,000 in Pennsylvania, the PPA is the leading grassroots poker advocacy group. You can learn more about joining the fight for iGaming in your state on the PPA website.

European players and you cheeky grinders who play UK online poker to earn a living, know already that this game dominates this part of the world.

Texas Holdem (and coming soon is Pot Limit Omaha and other variations of it) is already one of the most popular card games in the world. It’s played in casino and in MILLIONS of homes – ESPECIALLY in the UK. You can watch others play it on TV and in movies. You can even play it online. For real money, too much.

Today’s games, software, and promotions are much better on top of all that. So honestly, people are excited. You are about to go head first and we will walk you through the safest poker sites to play in if you are located in the UK and also give you the best overall experience for your bankroll.

Why is poker so popular in the UK?

It’s legal – Compare Europe with the United States. Only 3 states have legalized online poker in the United States games right now. Everyone breaks the law in one form or another.

But not in the EU baby. You can play whenever you want. And you don’t have to look over your shoulder in fear, either. Hell, you don’t even have to pay taxes.

More players – One of the problems with American poker sites is the lack of volume. There are too few players in a state to run a sustainable poker site. And things are too sketchy for players to spend too much time or money on offshore locations.

But European sites? Most of your poker sites have at least 10,000 players. Party Poker is one of them. Full Tilt has between 15 and 30,000 players and PokerStars welcomes nearly 100,000 players outside of statutory holidays. You can double that on Sunday.

Game variants – You can choose from Texas Holdem, Omaha, Stud, Mixed (HORSE), Lowball, cash games, SNG and MTT. There are also tons of game modifiers; turbos, hyper turbos, shallow stacks, deep stacks, antes, knockouts, and the list goes on and on.

The best part? Most of the European sites that offer these games actually have the players to fill them out – unlike the United States where there are really only a handful of poker rooms that do any similar type of volume.

Banking – Wouldn’t it be great if you could use your Visa card to fund your poker account? What about PayPal for withdrawals? If only there was a poker site like this.

Oh, there is; but only for European players. You can choose from options like credit cards, gift cards, money transfers, e-wallets, vouchers, bank transfers and more.

Software – Wow, where to start? The games look better. You can multi-table like no other (sometimes up to 16 tables and more!). You can use third party software (Holdem Manager & PokerTracker). There are options like run it twice, show map, notes / labels, and 4 color sets. Many sites even have different background themes that you can use for a unique experience.

Oh, and I can’t forget that most UK poker sites have mobile apps that are compatible with Android, iPhone and iPad.

UK and EU poker sites are geared towards grinders

One of the biggest changes to American poker sites is that many of them are trying to meet the needs of recreational players. It means more action and faster games. It also means safer games. Safe from what? The professional player. The crusher.

If volume weren’t an issue, it would still be difficult to make a living at American poker sites. But nothing has changed on the other side of the pond. Here’s why it’s good for you, the crusher.

You can use third-party software.

This means that you can use tracking programs like Holdem Manager and Poker Tracker. You can use Hand-Histories.com to extract the hands. And you can use odds calculators, hotkey programs and more, all designed to make you a more efficient and effective poker player.

There are no anonymous tables.

Anonymous tables do not use screen names. Instead, they label players with numbers. The idea is to prevent good players from targeting weaker ones (over and over again).

But that makes poker more difficult, where you need information (collected over time) to improve your strategy.

Few, if any, European poker sites have anonymous tables. What they do instead is offer beginner tables, which are intended for players who have just signed up. The idea is to give them time to familiarize themselves with the software, the rules and the players. After so many hands, games or months, they join the general population. This is a much better way to achieve the balance that poker sites are looking for.

You can multi-table.

Many US sites have reduced the number of tables players are allowed to open at one time. I think the idea is that recreational players will only have a few players open at a time. And that will discourage shredders from joining the site.

Few, if any, European venues limit the number of tables you can play. PokerStars limits you to 24 cash game tables, and you can play as many MTT / SNGs as you can. Most of the other sites are similar.

Enough already: How do you choose the best UK poker site?

The challenge in choosing a poker site is that most are the same in terms of variety of games, software, and banking options. It is a question of knowing which software is the prettiest and which site offers the games (with volume) that you want.

From there, I would make a choice based on compatibility (Mac, Windows, Mobile) and promotions.

Promotions vary enormously. Most offer the same types of promotions, like bonuses, guaranteed tournaments, and VIP programs. But the details for each will differ. So you must be asking yourself, what is important to me?

If that was me, I would rank the attributes of a poker site in the following order:

  • Game variety
  • Site volume
  • Software
  • VIP program
  • Guaranteed tournaments
  • Banking options
  • Welcome Bonus / Reload Bonus

Yours could be different. But that’s my point. You need to understand what is important to you. Using that, read our reviews to find the best match.

If you want to get started now, here are some of our favorite venues in the UK. Take your pick and good luck.

Swedish poker sites – play online poker in Sweden

[ad_1]

The game is said to be deeply rooted in Swedish history, in fact, the tradition is said to date back to the year 1020, when a Swedish king was playing with the king of Norway for the ownership of a district.

The Swedish king won the district with a roll of the dice, when he got two sixes, the king of Norway lost the roll with a 6 and a 7.

Online poker in Sweden

Poker is highly regulated in Sweden, in fact last month the Swedish authorities (Skatteverket) severely cracked down on illegal poker games. Poker players in Sweden received letters from Skatteverket requiring all registrations relating to the game of poker outside the European Economic Area between 2008 and 2011.

Players were asked to submit bank statements from all institutions where they could have received deposits of poker winnings; they were also responsible for providing Skatteverket with their poker site usernames.

Numerous online poker sites were specifically named in the letter, including:

  • PokerStars
  • Absolute Poker
  • Bodog
  • Full Tilt Poker

Swedes can play poker legally, but they must do so at an approved poker site within the European Economic Area (EEA). They also have to pay heavy taxes.

Swedish Licensed Poker Sites

Less common poker games played in Swedish gambling halls

>> Courchevel Poker in Sweden

Courchevel Poker is played like Omaha, with two small details. As in a game of Omaha, each player receives 4 cards. In a game of Omaha, after receiving their hole cards, players would bet, in Courchevel, they wait. 1 flop card is dealt, and THEN they bet. Then the next two cards on the flop are dealt and play resumes exactly as it would in an Omaha game.

>> Pineapple Poker in Sweden

Much like a Courchevel Poker game, Pineapple Poker is essentially Holdem with a twist. In a Pinapple poker game, each player is dealt 3 hole cards. They make their bets, a flop is dealt. Then each player makes a bet and discards a card! It’s the twist! After the discard, players continue to play as they would play Holdem.

New Hampshire becomes fifth state to legalize online lottery sales

[ad_1]

Legalizing online gambling has been a difficult task in the United States, but progress is being made.

Opposition forces and infighting among potential stakeholders have limited online gambling (poker and casino) to the first three states Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey. These same forces have failed to curb the online lottery.

When New Hampshire Govt. Chris sununu signed his name on a bill authorizing the New Hampshire Lottery offer products online last month, the granite state became the fifth to take the leap into the online lottery. (This is the sixth account Minnesota; the legislature has cut short its time as a state online lottery.)

Other states where online lottery is legal are:

  • Illinois – The online lottery was put online in March 2012
  • Georgia – The online lottery was put online in November 2012
  • Michigan – The online lottery was put online in August 2014
  • Kentucky – The online lottery was launched in April 2016

NH Lottery Commission Executive Director Charlie McIntyre is targeting early 2018 for a launch date. He does not foresee any problem with the online lottery.

“For us, this is simply an evolution of the way we do business”, McIntyre told the Union leader. “We’re not really selling anything new. We just do it in a different way.

Number of online lottery states likely to continue to increase

In the process of legislation, Pennsylvania could become the sixth state to offer its lottery online. The legislation is part of a comprehensive package of gambling reforms with a good chance of being passed before the end of the year.

Massachusetts is also a contender for online lottery sales, and the problem is expected to gain further momentum in 2018. Online lottery supporters in Massachusetts will likely still point to New Hampshire. another reason to participate in its online lottery.

states like West Virginia are equally give the online lottery a serious look. Because of the way the state crafted its lottery law, West Virginia could quickly flip the switch and allow online lottery sales. without legislative approval.

Online lottery without incident

As more states legalize online gambling and / or online lotteries, it is becoming increasingly clear that the technology in place is more than capable of protecting players. The same technology guarantees compliance with regulatory requirements.

So far, there have been only a few small hiccups in the New Jersey online gambling industry. Regulators quickly noticed and corrected all instances. This includes fines imposed on the offending companies, just as they would be in the land-based casino industry.

Online lottery guarantees have proven to be equally strong.

On the occasion of its second anniversary, the Illinois Lottery praise on his geolocation and AGE verification procedures.

“The lottery, through its private manager, launched the first internet sales portal in the United States during the $ 656 million Mega Millions jackpot week in March 2012,” said the director of the Illinois Lottery. Michael jones. “Two years later, it’s clear that the age and geography constraints that were key components of the test are working as intended.”

Online lottery boosts land sales

Despite lingering fears of cannibalization, states offering online lotteries have found the product complementary.

From a December 2016 article report by Digital games group on the Michigan online lottery, just like online gambling, the online lottery client has little in common with traditional brick and mortar lottery players.

“The Michigan Lottery success story should be a page in every lottery book seeking to convince its stakeholders of the value, certainty and complementary nature of this new sales channel,” the report states.

Additionally, the report found existing lottery customers registering accounts online. not reduce land expenses.

“Multi-channel growth has been seen around the world where iLottery has a presence and the industry is finally getting national evidence as well,” the report concludes.

New Hampshire Sets Stage for Online Lottery; Is online gaming next?

Could another state online lottery soon?

New Hampshire was the first state in the country to offer legal lottery games. After ten years of effort, the state finally legalized its lottery in 1963.

Following the passage of an omnibus bill tied to the 2018-2019 state budget, New Hampshire could soon become the fifth state to offer online lottery games. This would include instant tickets online.

Where does the online lottery come from?

The online lottery was born when the legislature passed a riders bill, H 517, which would authorize the national lottery to offer online games. A separate measure that would allow keno games has also been adopted, so keno may end up being offered online.

According to proponents of the proposal, online lottery games will appeal to a younger demographic and gross around $13 million annually in additional income.

The bill still needs to be signed by Governor Chris Sununu before it officially becomes law.

What the NH Lottery bill says

According to the summary, the bill “permits the lottery commission to sell lottery tickets over the Internet and through mobile applications and to create certain practices to address gambling issues during such sales.”

The full section of the bill dealing with online lottery sales reads:

(e) May be sold by or for the Lottery Commission through the use of mobile applications by mobile devices or over the Internet. With respect to such sales, the Lottery Commission will provide:

(1) Age verification measures to be taken to block access and prevent the sale of lottery tickets to persons under the age of 18. These measures include requiring players to register for an account with an approved lottery retailer in accordance with this chapter.

(2) That lottery purchases be limited to transactions initiated and completed within the geographic boundaries of the State of New Hampshire.

(3) Wagering limits for daily, weekly and monthly amounts for each player and account in accordance with problem gambling best practices.

(4) A voluntary self-exclusion program allowing players to self-exclude themselves from betting for set periods of time.

NH is different from other online lottery states

The only notable difference between the New Hampshire bill and bills passed and introduced in other states is the provision that registration must be made in person at a brick and mortar retailer.

State House Concord Monitor journalist Allie Morris describes the current proposal for New Hampshire Public Radio so :

According to the current proposal, in order for users to download this application, you must first register in a physical store, and that is where the age verification would take place.

And something that I understand would be a big difference between playing in a store and playing on your phone would be right now, if you’re going to buy a scratch ticket from a grocery store or convenience store, you have to pay cash for that ticket. I understand you can create a credit card account when you come in and register to verify your age. It could be connected to your phone for you to play online.

Are you part of a larger online strategy?

The online lottery might just be one part of a larger online strategy.

A fantasy sports daily bill introduced in January came to life this month. All it takes is Sununu’s signature to become law.

And earlier this year, New Hampshire lawmakers submitted a fictitious invoice that would allow online gambling in the Granite State.

The bill lacked specifics, merely reading:

“This bill exempts internet gambling from gambling offenses under RSA 647. To date, the Department of Justice has not investigated or prosecuted online gambling offenses and does not expect therefore not expect this bill to have an impact on spending.

To the extent that this bill legalizes a form of gambling, it could have an indeterminable impact on lottery and charitable gaming revenues. Lottery and charitable gaming revenues are credited to the lottery fund, with net revenues after Lottery Commission expenses being credited to the state education trust fund.

No measures have been taken regarding online gambling. But now that New Hampshire is on the verge of legalizing the online lottery, a bigger push in online gambling could be in the cards next year.

Interview with founder Phil Fraser

0

[ad_1]

Founded in 2000, What Bingo has grown over the years to become the largest bingo review website in the UK and a world famous name in the online bingo space. To celebrate the industry and the hard work of its representatives, WhichBingo hosted the What Bingo rewards ceremony for several years now.

The WhichBingo website was created by Mr. Phil Fraser, someone with years of experience in online bingo (and gaming as a whole). Before venturing into the world of bingo, Mr. Fraser had been hired by the great British bookmaker William Hill to help him launch his first online casino.

The 2017 edition of the WhichBingo Awards is expected to take place within a week and the organizers have promised a unique experience for the participants. The awards ceremony will take place at the Café de Paris in London’s West End, a popular venue for its burlesque and cabaret evenings.

Mr. Fraser and his team kindly answered our questions about the event, how it has evolved over the years and what they expect from its 2017 edition. Read the full interview below.

+ Can you tell us more about the upcoming WhichBingo Awards? How will the 2017 edition be different from those of previous years?

The WhichBingo Awards are well known for taking place in unusual places around London. Every year we go to a different location and we try to organize the event according to the particular location. This year we’re at the iconic Café de Paris, famous for its burlesque and cabaret acts, so we had no choice but to bring in the dancers and put on a bit of a show!

+ How is an event of this kind organized? How long does it usually take to put on the show? Are you actively involved in the organizing process?

It generally takes around 3 or 4 months to put everything in place, including on-site activity such as designing the website, informing all operators and then issuing the public actor vote. Regarding the ceremony, we work closely with an event company that helps us find the venue and organize the event on the same day.

+ Can you tell us more about the appointment process? Who can nominate and who can be nominated?

Operators were invited to nominate themselves using a simple online form. If they chose one of the four categories decided by the jury, they would receive a more detailed nomination form to fill out, depending on the category in which they wished to participate. For player-voted awards, presets were announced and a voting form posted on the website. Operators then had about three weeks to encourage players to vote for them.

+ What can you say about this year’s jury?

In previous years we only had one jury award, but this year we expanded it to four categories: most socially responsible, best software, best mobile experience and best service. customer. For the first of these, we are counting on the support of six independent responsible gaming judges for their help in choosing the winner. In the last three, the jury was made up of our own WhichBingo review team, who have extensive experience playing across all nominated sites, so we believe we have selected some worthy winners this year.

+ What do you think are the characteristics that players pay the most attention to when choosing their favorite nominee from one category or another?

It’s hard to say because the players who vote don’t provide any reason for doing so. However, the sites that generally do well are those that actively engage with players and give them clear reminders and calls to action to vote on a variety of channels, such as onsite, email, and on. social networks.

Our advice is always to vote for us CTAs where players will see them, either right in their inbox or right there on a high traffic page. If they simply paste it on a rarely viewed promotions page or blog and do nothing else, their brand advocates are unlikely to see the message and vote.

+ And what characteristics should the “Best Online Bingo Site” have?

The only thing the best site needs to have is mass appeal and the ability to interact well with its audience. No matter how good the post is, players won’t vote for you if they don’t like your product.

+ What do you expect from this year’s ceremony?

I’m really excited about this year’s event because it’s such a fantastic venue and we already have the majority of seats reserved. It will be a “full house” as we say in bingo! I expect a great atmosphere, a great show from the cabaret acts that we have lined up and a great lineup of deserving winners in all 14 award categories. We’re also expanding the rewards for the first time to include an after-party, during which tables are removed and a DJ comes in to party guests late into the night. It also means that the capacity increases after 9:30 p.m. and therefore more people can come if they were not able to secure a seat for the previous event.

+ When and how did the idea for the WhichBingo Awards come about? How has this concept been improved over the years?

There has been a poll on the WhichBingo website for over 15 years that asked players to vote for their favorite sites. In 2014, we decided to completely revamp this poll and turn it into a full-fledged awards ceremony, with nominations, votes and a real ceremony in London. Over the years we have introduced new categories and added more juries. Every year we are always looking for ways to update and improve the whole event.

+ And how do you plan to develop the ceremony in the future?

It’s too early to start talking about next year, but ideally what I’d like to see are more judge-led categories alongside player-voted categories. Player voting is great for getting broad engagement, but Judges voting is where you increase the level of kudos for winning an award. We have also added two slots categories for the first time this year, so there is room for more rewards in this area as we increase the amount of slot content at WhichBingo.

+ How does the WhichBingo Awards ceremony influence the course of the industry? Why does the online bingo industry need an event like this?

You can see what the WhichBingo Awards mean to many brands from the efforts they put in to encourage votes and in the submissions they submit to the judges. It’s a real badge of honor and in such a crowded market, a great way to stand out. Online bingo is often only a small category in many larger online gaming events, so it is important that the industry has its own dedicated ceremony like this. It’s a great way to bring everyone in the industry together in one place.

Why this investor thinks that a long position in online bingo is not a risky bet

0

[ad_1]

Jackpotjoy plc. (formerly called Intertain) is a Canadian online gaming company that focuses primarily on online bingo. Despite some negative outlook on the company recently, Intertain recently re-listed the LSE and is the dominant player in the UK online bingo industry. Lennard Zwart, portfolio manager at Amsterdam-based Res Privata family office, believes Jackpotjoy has taken on new leadership following the re-listing and debt refinancing according to his idea posted on SumZero. Meanwhile, the complex structure of the business has obscured the true state of health of the business, which he believes should be upgraded to at least double its current value.

SumZero: What about Jackpotjoy (JPJ) who first caught your attention as a value investor?

Lennard Zwart: We like to look at special situations in today’s environment, and JPJ was a relist that also got a lot of attention from short sellers, so we took a closer look. After my fellow portfolio manager Iljaas Abdoella and I concluded that the short arguments were no longer valid and that the stock had a very attractive and stable cash flow, we took a small long position. After the stock fell sharply in October 2016 due to re-listing delays and the emergence of another short report, we made it our second largest position with a normalized cash flow return of 20% .

SumZero: What is the market missing?

Lennard Zwart: This company was basically a nasty rollup with a management team that was more focused on compensation than shareholder. By early 2016, the company’s board was already administering some effective self-help by getting rid of most of the old management team and deciding on a UK-centric strategy.

Another factor as to why people don’t like the stock is an outsourcing deal with Gamesys, which caused people to worry about Gamesys entering the bingo market themselves when they were. cleared in 2020. We believe the risk of Gamesys returning is low as Gamesys has a lot of skin in the Jackpotjoy game. Gamesys receives a portion of its revenue, has future milestone payments and also owns a significant stake in JPJ. JPJ may also cause substantial damage to Gamesys by withdrawing funds from persons working at Gamesys on behalf of JPJ. Gamesys also said they wanted to be a platform business, not a business-to-consumer business. Another important point to remember is that there aren’t many game companies that actually have their technology’s IP. Last year, Gamesys extended its non-competition by two years.

We see the change in the investor base and some frightening regulatory and tax measures in the UK as the latest ingredients contributing to the undervaluation of JPJ.

SumZero: What key metrics should investors pay attention to as your thesis matures?

Lennard Zwart: I would pay attention to deleveraging related metrics first. When JPJ reaches a credit facility leverage of 2.75, the company intends to begin paying a dividend. This leverage currently stands at 3.37, but before the company can start reducing the leverage on its credit facility it has to pay around £ 135million in earn-out debt. . We expect the 2.75 level to be reached around the first quarter of 2019, but much of the stock’s revaluation will take place before that. The continued reductions in leverage will increase JPJ’s comparability with other gambling-related stocks on the LSE and during this process its attractive multiples of EBITDA and FCF will become larger.

SumZero: How Jackpotjoy’s re-listing on the London Stock Exchange created value for the company?

Lennard Zwart: Most importantly, it created value for us as the delay in listing provided us with attractive entry levels. More seriously, one of the reasons the relisting will add value to JPJ is that GBP accounts will neutralize currency related volatility, as most of the income is in pounds sterling. More importantly, the company has a lot of comps in London and this implies that the JPJ market cap should at least double based on the EBITDA and FCF multiples. We can now start to see the initiation of research in the UK with favorable name coverage. This, along with the deleveraging and dividend outlook, will boost institutional ownership and stock price gains over the next several years.

SumZero: Why is the online bingo industry not as competitive as the rest of the online gaming world?

Lennard Zwart: Bingo is a smaller subsection of online gambling, much smaller than online casinos and poker. Additionally, customers are more feminine and tend to focus more on the social element that JPJ captures with its hosted chat feature. This means that they tend to be more loyal. For JPJ in particular, online bingo is less competitive because with 22% market share, they are the biggest player with the biggest bankroll and therefore the best win ratio. The second player only holds 14% of the market.

SumZero: Is there a growing cultural headwind against gambling that could affect future earnings?

Lennard Zwart: We don’t think there is a cultural headwind against gambling, at least not in Europe. There are political pressures to close tax loopholes and regulatory pressures to limit excesses and ensure fair treatment of clients. We believe developments like the UK Gambling Probe are maturing the industry and that regulation will be good for incumbent market leaders like JPJ.

SumZero: Intertain has had a difficult history. Can you explain what happened in 2016 with the allegations against the former CEO and CFO? How does this affect your perspective?

Lennard Zwart: The former management team was accused of extravagant behavior and had an overall turbulent past. The short thesis against JPJ went on to accuse this leadership of essentially cooking the numbers. This last statement struck us as wrong and with the fact that most of the old management team has been replaced, it made us feel very comfortable with the reputation of the old management as a source of undervaluation. .

The CFO of the old management team is still in place. We’ve met him and he seems knowledgeable and aligned with the new leadership of the company, although we don’t like the size of his pay legacy.

SumZero: Has the UK Gambling Probe had an effect on Jackpotjoy?

Lennard Zwart: The latest probes focus on unfair treatment of customers and betting terminals in offline betting shops. These are both generic in nature. In terms of treating customers fairly, one need only look at the brand loyalty among JPJ’s customer base to see that this is not a problem for JPJ. They have a nice graph on customer loyalty in their presentation to investors. Eliminating the straw will strengthen JPJ’s position.

SumZero: What do you think of the claims that JackPotJoy’s margins are over inflated after the acquisition?

Lennard Zwart: This was essentially the heart of the short argument. We stressed that taking into account a homogeneous tax base and operating leverage, the cost base of JPJ’s activities and the evolution of the margin before and after acquisition were consistent, including the introduction POC taxes in 2015. We then confirmed our calculation. when Gamesys accounts became available last January. Instead of confirming the short thesis, this analysis showed how robust the JPJ segment was in terms of growth and operational leverage, as JPJ quickly mitigated the negative tax effect of POC through organic growth and operational leverage. .

SumZero: What are the biggest risks associated with trading in your opinion?

Lennard Zwart: There could be a dramatic political or Brexit-related event in the UK games market. We could also be wrong that Gamesys is not making a new entry into the UK online bingo market. These two risks seem to us to be quite low compared to the valuation of JPJ. In addition, any adverse decision by Gamesys would be at least a few years away given the recently extended non-compete clause.

SumZero: What will catalyze the market to see the value of Jackpotjoy?

Lennard Zwart: We believe that constant deleveraging leading to lower debt and an increase in the EBITDA multiple will catalyze the market. Then, in 2018, the deleveraging will lead the company to be mainly valued on its potential dividend and its FCF yield vis-à-vis the British peer group.

SumZero: Where else do you see value in the market today?

Lennard Zwart: The American market is obviously very valued and we are not very comfortable with the political and structural issues in Europe. At the same time, we do not want to venture outside our circle of expertise (with regard to country risks and accounting standards that we know). The result is that we hold a decent amount of cash and focus our investments on a very high margin of safety stocks in terms of asset values and stable cash flow. These stocks tend to be small and mid caps at the moment. We are also interested in complex specific situations (spinoffs, regulatory changes, liquidations, etc.). This strategy offers a decent level of relatively uncorrelated returns as we look forward to the next episode of turmoil.

SumZero: Tell me about your fund strategy and your goal?

Lennard Zwart: We have just launched our fund and are currently building our track record with our own capital. Res Privata invests in just about every instrument available at company level and geographically we are looking at all English speaking countries and Western Europe.

Our strategy is to find alpha at the intersection of value investing and quantitative analysis. This means that we combine in-depth value-based analysis with quantitative behavioral finance methods to help us identify valuations that are incorrect due to human bias. Importantly, the system will also alert us when we threaten to follow our own biases during the investment process. Not exactly by chance, identifying biases and ignoring our own is exactly what Intertain / JackPotJoy’s risky backstory called for.

[ad_1]

After weeks of speculation, online poker operator PKR has confirmed that it entered administration after no longer being able to fund its day-to-day operations.

PKR, one of the oldest online poker rooms, has posted the following corporate statement on its website:

“Following previous announcements, PKR limited and PKR Technologies Ltd have filed applications with the court for administrative orders, which will be heard in the week of May 8, 2017. Further information will be posted on this website after the hearings. “

Prior to his statement, PKR platform partner Microgaming informed the market that it had cut operator services at the request of PKR management, who were seeking “independent professional advice” regarding their difficulties. financial.

This week, Microgaming released another statement detailing that PKR management “has repeatedly assured us that player funds are held in a separate client account”, acting in accordance with UK and Alderney licensing obligations. .

Launched in 2016 by video game developer Jez San (founder), PKR aimed to bring a 3D dimension to the static online poker market. At the time, the standalone 3D poker room received industry awards and recognition for bringing innovation to the market and diversifying its poker product.

Nonetheless, PKR’s growth was strongly impacted by the slowdown in online poker as the operator struggled to create consistent liquidity for players within its poker room.

Following a management restructuring in 2015, which saw Chris Welch appointed CEO, PKR would merge its stand-alone poker platform with the provisions of the Microgaming network.

Taking the lead of PKR, Welch had indicated that the company would look to diversify its product line by adding a casino and a potential sports betting product, because as a single vertical operator, PKR no longer appealed to modern consumers.

However, PKR’s recovery plans appear to have been immediately hit by financial constraints.

Totally Gaming Says: Sad news about PKR, a gaming operator who has created a revolutionary industrial product (beyond the igaming sector) and developed an effective 3D community. Perhaps an operator or competitor can look to buy the technology and differentiate their poker offering.

Microgaming suspends PKR due to financial difficulties

online poker site PKR was suspended from MPN Network after experiencing “recent financial difficulties”.

PKR players were unable to access the MPN-hosted site for over 48 hours, leading to widespread speculation on social media. Now it has become apparent that PKR has been in financial trouble and has been suspended from the MPN Network at their own request.

A brief statement on the Microgaming website bed:

“Following a request from PKR on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 5:32 p.m., Microgaming has suspended play on PKR.com.

Microgaming is aware that its games remain offline and players are speculating as to why. As soon as Microgaming has more information on the situation, it will be shared as soon as possible.

PKR’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts have been removed and any attempt to access PKR’s website redirects to a status page where the following instruction appears:

“Following previous announcements, PKR limited and PKR Technologies Ltd have filed motions with Administrative Court orders, which will be heard during the week of May 8, 2017.

More information will be posted on this website after the hearings.

This information will include contact details for players and creditors to answer questions and details of the process.”

PKR burst onto the poker scene in 2006 and became an instant hit with the poker community thanks to its video game-like graphics which helped the site deliver an immersive online poker experience. Players could fully customize their 3D avatars to help recreate a live poker environment from the comfort of their own home.

In March 2016, PKR ceased to be an independent online poker site and joined MPN, formerly known as Microgaming Network. Using MPN’s Babelfish technology, PKR was able to migrate to MPN with their 3D poker client intact.

After successfully migrating to MPN, PKR’s COO Chris Welch said: “The opportunity to connect our unique 3D poker software to a popular network and enjoy the best of both worlds means that we can once again dream bigger. With our software and our community allied with the advanced products of Microgaming, to poker’s liquidity and proven track record, this is the perfect match.

PKR celebrated its 10th anniversary in August 2016 by launching the PKR Live Casino site and offering a bonus of up to €1,200 for new depositing players. Players can no longer access the casino software.

PokerNews has contacted MPN regarding PKR’s player fund protection policies and will update this article accordingly once their representative responds.

Online Poker Networks – Reviews of the Best Online Poker Skins

0

[ad_1]

The online poker ecosystem is made up of dozens of the most popular poker sites, most of which run either on a network platform or on their own independent software. These sites have large amounts of real money poker players, sometimes playing different skins on the same network in order to take advantage of different promotions or bonus offers. We are going to break down the best online poker networks in this article.

The “network” model

Most poker rooms choose to join a network to offset the costs of developing their own software, running different promotions and tournament series, and getting instant access to a pool of players shared across the network.

The downside of this model is that since player pools are shared, part of the profit goes to the network provider who provides them with the poker software needed to run their room. Also, some venues have taken advantage of the network in the past and abused rakeback and controversies like this only negatively affect other venues on the network.

Independent Poker Software Providers

The biggest iGaming companies like PokerStars and PartyPoker all use their own independent software to power their games and therefore collect 100% of the rake and profit as well. These sites have booming budgets and are listed companies worth billions, a plus for pioneering the business and developing their own poker software.

The aforementioned sites are the major players in the online poker industry, with PokerStars accounting for almost 50% of the market share for the online poker player pool. This isn’t necessarily because they chose to develop their own software, but mostly because they were part of a very small group that took their business seriously during the early days of online poker.

These particular sites have since flourished, even after the UIGEA and “Black Friday”, when many of these sites were forced to remove their US player base following a Department of Justice crackdown on online poker. the United States.

Most Popular Online Poker Networks Today

There are really only a handful of poker networks today that bring real value to the poker ecosystem. Below is our list of the best networks in the poker industry, including a short description for each and a direct link to more in-depth reviews on each.

IPoker Network

The iPoker network currently hosts over 30 different poker skins on the network itself. The company’s software is actually powered by Playtech, which originally started in the industry as a provider of casino software.

The iPoker network made a drastic change a few years ago when they separated the sites, placing some in different tiers and renaming them “iPoker 1” and “iPoker 2”, mainly to ensure fairness between the skins. , because some were offering exorbitant rakeback offers. that other smaller sites could not compete with.

However, they would move away from this multi-level pattern in 2015 to improve player liquidity as traffic started to drop since they split traffic. Meanwhile, smaller sites have gone down while other larger sites in the network have bought some skins and traffic from their players in the process.

The most popular site on iPoker is Titan Poker, with other PaddyPoker sites also calling the network currently.

Microgaming Poker Network

The Microgaming network is one of the most popular in the UK and Europe. They are one of the pioneers of iGaming, starting as Playtech as a provider of casino software before venturing into online poker.

According to PokerScout.com, network traffic consistently ranks in the top 10 worldwide for real money poker players. They currently have over 20 skins and continue to do well in the industry.

Like most poker sites these days, the network has moved away from rakeback altogether and is committed to making the site more focused on recreational players rather than grinders. They even set up anonymous tables to rid their sites of “bumhunters” and have a fully implemented success system in place.

The most popular MPN sites seem to be Betsson, BetSafe, and Nordic Bet. Bettson also offers a full bookmaker, as well as sites like 32Red and a few others.

888 Poker Network

888 is of course one of the most recognizable brands in the business today, with its software used not only to power 888Poker.com in Europe and around the world, but even for regulated poker sites in New Jersey, the Nevada and Delaware.

Network traffic is consistently high both nationally and internationally, ranking in the top 3 according to PokerScout. Solid poker software and attention to detail have made 888 one of the most trusted names in all of poker today.

Naturally, the best site on their own network is 888Poker.com, which constantly battles giants like PokerStars and PartyPoker for world domination in terms of player traffic.

Winning poker network

WPN is home to the few “unregulated” poker sites that still accept US players. Since the UIGEA and Black Friday, many major poker providers have pulled out of the market, creating a void that sites like Americas Cardroom have quickly filled.

While the sites on WPN don’t get as much traffic as their counterparts in Europe, the network has decent numbers in terms of real money traffic. Poker rooms on WPN, like Americas Cardroom, also still offer rakeback to its players and extremely fast withdrawals, making it the number one option for customers around the world and the United States.

Equity Poker Network

The Equity Poker Network is similar to WPN’s in that it is also a smaller, user-friendly poker center for the United States. They have a very unique business model where operators (i.e. skins) pay a fixed fee each month to cover operating expenses, while still being able to keep 100% of the rake. generated by its players.

The best sites on EPN should be Action Poker and Full Flush Poker. The traffic is nothing fancy, but there is a certain “fishy factor” to sites like these. Play at your own risk, as both of these sites are notorious for slow payments.

Intertain seeks to attract punters with online bingo

0

[ad_1]

Bingo in Britain is a far cry from its origins in 14th century Italy or the salons of 17th century France where aristos played a form of gambling called Le Lotto. Here, working-class sororities play bingo in the hallways, marking their cards and barricading callers shouting numbers in their own patois: “Was she worth it?” Shouts a caller alluding to 76, supposed to be the cost of a marriage license. “Every penny,” chant the players, mostly women aged 55 and over (living snakes or a moldy beehive in bingo jargon).

However, the bingo halls are disappearing. The death knell was the smoking ban introduced in the UK ten years ago. Only some of the sisters have moved online.

The UK is the world’s largest online bingo market with around 3 million players, according to Intertain of Canada. Last year he agreed to pay up to £ 375million for Jackpotjoy, which is run by Cockney Sparrow Queen Barbara Windsor and claims to be the UK’s biggest bingo site. Today, the UK accounts for the bulk of Intertain’s revenue and is preparing to go on the London Stock Exchange next month. She hopes to be better heard by British investors than she has had in Canada. There, the shares are roughly five times the earnings forecast for December.

Intertain’s problem is that online bingo is a nascent market on the fringes of the gaming industry. Total online bingo revenue was around £ 130million last year, according to the UK Commission on Gambling. games of chance. This compares to revenues of £ 3.6 billion from all types of online betting and £ 12.6 billion from all forms of gambling – betting shops, racetracks, casinos, national lottery and others. And while online bingo is growing, it is not doing it as fast as other forms of online betting.

Online bingo is what is called a soft game, like the national lottery or scratch cards. Players are not big players. Most of them are women in their 30s, who put on a few pounds on a quick game while using the chat rooms.

There is nothing sweet about the business, however. There are hundreds of sites. The technology is relatively straightforward, says Andrew McIver, Managing Director of Intertain. The art is to create a buzz. His recipe for happiness is: “More people, more games, more interest and bigger jackpots”. Online bingo operators do not get rich by taking a share of the bingo winnings. The battle is to win new bettors at their desks or on the phone and persuade them to spend as much as possible in a matter of minutes on the sidebar casino games and scratch cards. But it is expensive to catch the attention of punters and soon loses it.

“You need a lot of nets in the water to catch more fish,” says Eitan Boyd, general manager of Stride Gaming, operator of Luckypants and Kitty Bingo.

The scrutiny of regulators and governments makes life more difficult. When the UK government imposed a consumption tax point on betting companies in 2014, many smaller competitors “were wiped out,” Boyd said. Stride took advantage of their misfortune. It now holds a tenth of the UK distance bingo market, having acquired 96 brands of bingo last year. For now, the bet is won. Last week, he said that a strong trade recently would increase revenue and profit before the bad guys for the year through August by 70%. The shares have risen 84 percent since their IPO last year, putting them on about 10 times next year’s earnings.

Mr McIver would give his eyes some teeth for the market to price Intertain this high. This is achievable, he says, for a group that has nearly 30 percent of the UK market and profit margins well above 30 percent. “We have critical mass and the full range of brands,” he says.

Still, he should be prepared for the disappointment. Tellingly, Intertain – or Jackpotjoy as it will be called when it goes listed in London – does not have the track record to qualify for a premium listing in the London market. Revenues may have risen from zero to C $ 384million in two years, but investors will need x-ray vision to see through stock issues and the £ 384million in debt raised to finance acquisitions.

Online bingo is an open market where growth is limited by demographics. It is as unlikely to make investors rich as those who play bingo. But at least the latter are playing for a laugh.

1Start by playing low stakes poker

Even for a person used to playing high stakes gambling games, it is advisable to start with lower stakes online. The goal of these early sessions, besides solid poker, should be to familiarize yourself with the nuances of online gambling. Starting with low stakes gives you a better chance of being able to win in poker in the long run.

Starting with lower stakes also allows the novice to start playing online with a smaller bankroll. This can alleviate the unnecessary stress of losing sessions and allow the player to focus on the long term goal of becoming a successful online player.

Generally speaking, when comparing fields of the same stakes online and live, online play will tend to contain more difficult opposition. A player who jumped into the same stakes online that he was playing live might start his foray into online poker feeling overwhelmed by the competition. Therefore, progressing gradually through the stakes should help a novice become familiar with, and ultimately fully understand, these differences and thus learn to win at online poker.

Additional aspects that the newbie should take the time to familiarize with include: site layout and lobby, betting features, checkout page, rake-back offers, and other bonuses.

Getting into online poker with ease instead of diving head first will help the novice learn about many unique aspects of online poker. One aspect that differs from live poker is the large number of hands you see per hour. Typically, this number will be more than double the number of poker hands that would be played in an hour in a physical casino, even if you were only playing at one table. The speed can be overwhelming for novices and can take a bit of getting used to.

3Start by playing at a single table

Play at a poker table

It can be tempting to jump straight into multi-table, as one of the many advantages of playing online is the ability to play more than one table at a time (although recently some players have also been spotted in multi-table in live tournaments). . However, a great understanding of the technical aspects of online poker will help the player in the weeks to come. Learn how to consistently win online poker at a table. Then, once the player feels confident in maneuvering a single table, they can start adding one table at a time depending on their comfort level.

For those looking to play a lot online, investing in an ergonomic chair can reduce back pain issues.

As the beginner progresses to online poker, other improvements can be helpful in achieving the goal of maximizing online profits. A large, high-resolution monitor can reduce eye strain and make the multi-table process less strenuous. A high-quality mouse can reduce wrist fatigue, as well as the time it takes to complete the action. For tournament players who will likely have a short break every hour, having a bathroom nearby can be very handy.

I have a strong routine of mental preparation work, meditation, or working with a prepared mind. I don’t wake up and start playing. I also like cold showers and breathing deeply helps me a lot!

Tribal Casino in Michigan halts revenue share payouts due to online lottery launch

0

A Native American tribe with a casino in Michigan stopped paying its share to the state because the state chose to offer internet lottery games.

The tribe believes the state violated its revenue-sharing pact by launching online lottery products last summer. The pact was negotiated in 2007.

The Gun Lake Tribe stopped making payments in June. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation receives about $60 million annually from tribal casinos in the state. The Gun Lake Casino pays approximately $13.3 million to the state each year.

According to crainsdetroit.com, other tribes may follow suit and stop their respective payments. Michigan has 12 tribes that have gambling facilities.

So far in 2015, online lottery sales have brought in $15.9 million for the state.

Americans spent over $70 billion on the lottery in 2014, making it the most popular form of gambling in the country. More states are planning to offer internet gaming, the most recent being North Carolina, according to a report from the Winston-Salem Diary. Florida also plans to one day offer the games on the Internet.

State lotteries essentially received federal permission to offer lottery services and products online when the Department of Justice reinterpreted the Wire Act in December 2011. This decision also led to three states launching the online poker.

Over 300,000 tickets sold daily through Michigan’s online lottery

the Michigan Lottery launched its online operations on August 11, 2014. It was unannounced at first and is only viewable by players on a menu tab on the Michigan Lottery website.

“We wanted to let players experience it and evaluate how it worked and make sure the systems were working the way they were designed to and giving players a great experience,” Jeff Holyfieldpublic relations director for the Michigan Lottery, told the OPR.

The first results were promising.

On Labor Day, the Michigan iLottery began advertising and launched a player rewards program. Full Internet operations were online by mid-November.

To say the games have proven popular would be an understatement. Michigan iLottery players have created more than 133,000 online accounts, according to Holyfield, with over 300,000 instant tickets sold daily for state online games.

His numbers echo those provided by the Michigan Lottery Director Scott Bowen at GiGse in April, which would have estimated $500,000 in daily online sales.

Online lottery sales have created 30 jobs, according to Holyfield. About half of these jobs are dedicated to the 24-hour help desk.

Michigan iLottery does not cannibalize traditional sales

The Michigan Lottery drafts it will generate $480 million during the first eight years of online games.

Internet games have sales not cannibalized from retailers.

“There is no indication that online gaming is affecting sales at our 11,000 retailers,” Holyfield said. “In fact, we continue to see sales increase across all channels.”

One of the reasons for this increase in sales is the acquisition of players who may have previously deposited on offshore sites. The Michigan Lottery has discovered that offering games over the internet can drive players away from unregulated online casinos. These revenues directly benefit the residents of the state.

“Online gambling was already available in Michigan and the state received no benefit,” Holyfield told the OPR. “We wanted to capture some of the dollars that were going to other countries to support public education in Michigan.”

Land sales remain strong

Sales of instant games at traditional lottery retailers, commonly referred to as scratch tickets, increased by approximately 10% in 2014 compared to the previous year. Instant games sold through these companies represent 36.3% of total sales for this fiscal year.

Club Keno is distributed at participating retailers. This game distributes a new keno draw every 3.5 minutes. Club Keno represents 21.1% of sales this fiscal year.

The Michigan iLottery represents less than 10% of total sales for all the national lottery. The product is still in its infancy, while showing all the signs of a successful and complementary product to traditional lottery sales.

Significant Gambling Issue for Michigan Lottery

“Since the Michigan Lottery’s inception in 1972, we’ve been dedicated to responsible gaming,” Holyfield said. “That’s why we’ve included a strong responsible gaming component in our internet games.”

The lottery is a member of the Michigan Association on Problem Gambling and offers a variety of tools for online gamblers:

  • the default loss limit per week is $500. Players can reduce this amount to any amount instantly. It can only be increased after a waiting period of 48 hours.
  • Players can opt out from the Michigan iLottery. This can be done temporarily as a cooling off period or permanently. The exclusion of online games does not affect sales at lottery retailers.
  • The software has main features which help the Michigan Lottery identify players who may have a gambling problem. These players are encouraged to use the compulsive gambling features available on the platform.
  • Customer service is available 24 hours a day.

Inside the Michigan Online Lottery Product

Unlike internet lottery operations in other states, Michigan does not sell tickets for online multi-state lotto draws. Internet ticket sales for the lottery draws will begin in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to Holyfield.

Games available

The Michigan iLottery broadcasts 18 games:

  • There are 17 instant games. These are best described as online scratch tickets.
  • The other game is keno. This game works in the same way as a video lottery terminal. Players can choose anywhere between one and ten numbers from the 80 available on the card. The online keno game then selects 20 numbered balls. Each part lasts a few seconds.

The gap is lowest in michigan iLottery keno compared to live versions of the game. For example, a player’s bet is returned on three out of ten numbers. Players must hit four or five out of ten numbers in a standard video or live keno game to win money. This helped make keno the number one game offered by the Michigan Internet Lottery.

who can play

The Michigan iLottery requires its online customers to be state residents. Players are located within the Michigan state boundary using geolocation technology which is standard in the online gaming industry. A player who cannot be identified in the state is rejected for real money play.

Players must submit personal information to create an account. The Michigan Lottery only requires the last four digits a player’s social security number for account verification. This is usually sufficient information to identify an individual and an important policy for player acquisition.

Regulated gaming sites in New Jersey which require the full social security number have identified this as a sticking point where players are lost during the account creation process.

Play money games are spread across the platform. Play money games imitate real money counterparties.

Michigan iLottery Deposit Options

There are a variety of deposit options available to Michigan iLottery players. The online game card is available for purchase at all 11,000 lottery retailers across the state. Other deposit options include Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Neteller, and eCheck.

Convenient deposit options aren’t the only financial advantage Michigan iLottery players enjoy at offshore sites. Winning players (including one who managed to win $1 million via the Michigan iLottery) have the peace of mind knowing their money is safe with the state lottery, as opposed to an unregulated site. located in another country.

Are Siege Scripts Killing Online Poker?

0

[ad_1]

The growth that the poker industry has experienced in recent years has led to the creation of a consistent number of software programs aimed at helping players increase their success rate.

The criticism expressed over the past few months by many members of the poker community against software such as trackers and heads-up displays (HUDs) has led a number of poker rooms to open up to the idea of implement various bans and introduce various “anonymous” games, where third party-party software such as these becomes completely irrelevant.

Over the past few days, however, the discussion has shifted to placement scripts, which are a type of software that automatically places players who use them at the juiciest tables. And, again, the charge against them is that it poses a real threat to the future of poker. In a nutshell, Seating Scripts are computer programs designed to automate and optimize the table selection process, a really crucial aspect of the game.

“The purpose of a siege script is to get a seat, optimally to the left of a recreational player without having to play against other regulars at three,” wrote the forum poster. “I am Jason” to Two plus two.

“The siege script constantly scans the tables while waiting for a third player to join and start a game. Once someone clicks on an empty seat, the seat will be displayed as reserved and the player now has 45 seconds to choose. a buy-in amount or cancel. This will automatically trigger the seat script to reserve a seat next to the seat that has just been reserved. “

According to “ImJason,” “If siege scripts were banned or regulated, it would easily increase the high stakes volume by 15-30%, as it would entice so many players to start and play games.”

However, by the poster’s own admission, the calculation is an assumption based on its own experience at the tables and is not supported by any “mathematical evidence.”

According to “ImJason’s”, the main problem with placement scripts is that they tend to “trigger each other” and lead to an “invisible click battle against scripts”.

“Once a seat is reserved, Script # 1 will reserve a seat, Script # 2 will reserve a seat, Script # 3 will reserve a seat, and so on. This cycle does not end, qu ‘A player joins or not, whether the game is three-way or not, the siege scripts will continue to trigger each other, blocking free seats on the table. “

In this hypothetical scenario, “If you play a $ 10 / $ 20 three-way game with two other regulars, the remaining three seats will be blocked by the reserved button.” During prime time, it can easily take up to 10 minutes to earn one click, fight scripts, and join a racing table with regulars. “

“ImJason” – like many players who have expressed support for his views on the effects of siege scripts – believes this is significantly detrimental to the poker industry and its future growth.

“Nobody wants to fight 20 scripts just to get a place in a three-way game between the regulars. And the worst part is that it hurts the ones who put the most effort to get the economy the most. va – the table entries. “

The technology is not there yet

In a long blog post devoted to the question, Microgaming Poker boss Alex scott tried to give his opinion on the effect that siege scripts can have on the industry and the way operators treat them.

“I started to see a lot more talk about a particular type of third-party tool, the siege script,” Scott explained. “There are many different types of scripts, but the type of script that everyone worries about is one that watches tables for weak players and then instantly places the user with a weak player when they find one.”

Citing his own experience at Microgaming, Scott went on to say that he had received numerous complaints about siege scripts – most of which came from experienced players, as recreational players “just aren’t aware of these scripts, and I think most would be horrified to find out. “

“I’m often asked why we’re not taking action against scripting already,” Scott continued, admitting that one of the biggest problems to date is technology. “We currently have no reliable way of detecting when someone is using a script to sit at the table,” he wrote. “If you are designing your software from scratch, keeping in mind that you would like to detect scripts, then it would be fairly trivial to detect them. The problem is that it is absolutely not easy to integrate this into software that already exists. Not impossible, but very difficult and very time consuming. “

“On the Microgaming Poker Network, placement scripts are currently allowed, but they will not be the case forever, ”Scott concluded. “When we figure out a way to reliably detect such tools and enforce a ban fairly, we’ll get rid of them in the game without a clue of regret.”

Unibet "Radical" New online poker room: exclusive preview

Note: This article is an abridged version of a previously published article on pokerfuse PRO.

Unibet, one of Microgaming’s most prominent and prominent MPN skins, announced in December 2013 that they were planning to move to their own independent poker room on a brand new platform.

The beta launch is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19. During the real money public test period, the room will operate alongside its standard poker room, but after a successful test phase, the NPP the room will close.

The new poker product, developed in partnership with the developer of Fast Poker, Relax Gaming, brings together many new industry trends, such as missions and achievements, a strong recreational and social focus and an ultra-simplified lobby, resulting in a product that is a radical change. the mainstay of typical poker rooms.

This will be one of the biggest product launches in the past two years. Pokerfuse takes a deep look.

Lobby

Unibet’s new poker product is brand new, highly simplified and user-friendly entertainment software. There is no hand history, HUDs are not allowed, and there is no table selection. Missions, achievements, avatar and profile customizations, cartoonish design, and user-friendly notifications are at the heart of the product.

The product will launch with a Windows download. Native customers for Mac, Apple iOS, and Android are all in the works and will all debut in Q1 2014.

The lobby does away with the standard table lists for an ultra-simple gaming experience: there are no tabs or filters, no “quick seat” or “favorites” selection. Players choose between cash games, sit and go, and tournaments, then choose between Hold’em (NL only), Omaha (PLO), or a quick folding pool. All tables are limited to 6-max only and all are 100bb deep. There is no play money games, different speed games, one-on-one gambling, or any other variety. All tables are in euros.

Players then choose a bet level and click “join”, and the player is taken directly to an empty seat. Individual tables are grouped together – there is no way to choose a table or choose a seat. This is a fairly common feature among poker customers today, since PokerStars implemented table pooling in 2012, but in Unibet’s client it is a forced feature. .

the tables

The design of the table typifies Unibet’s friendly cartoon style.

HUDs will not be allowed. In fact, no hand history will be recorded. A built-in hand history browser will allow a player to review recent hands only.

The most notable omission seen at the table is note-taking, a standard feature that by design won’t be present at the customer’s home, in keeping with creating an “level playing field,” according to West.

It is interesting to note that there will be no cap on the number of tables a player can play. However, by not allowing HUDs or table tracking, there will be an “implicit cap” on the number of tables a player can comfortably play, West said.

Customization

As is common, players can customize the table background, but the changes go way beyond a simple change in felt color. There are a variety of different skins, all shot in the same three-dimensional style, but each with a specific theme. The designs look well designed and offer a nice variety.

Identities are central to the Unibet client. Players can choose from a variety of avatars and choose a screen name. New identities can be created at any time, allowing unlimited screen name changes. The last five identities are remembered and the player can switch between them instantly.

Notifications and missions

An integrated lobby notification system keeps the player up to date with a variety of promotional and gamification features. Players unlock achievements and start missions, and players will be notified of the progress and rewards received. Players will also be notified here of updates to cashier processing and targeted marketing messages.

An example bonus indicator, shown below, shows a cash game ticket that can only be cleared on certain games. A progress bar, a countdown timer and links to join the right tables keep players up to date with its status.

From 888poker’s successful recreational goal, to partypoker attempts, to Bodog’s anonymous tables and the much-anticipated and much-delayed PokerStars 7 client of PokerStars: the recreational player experience is at the center of the industry.

Players and insiders alike will follow the launch of Unibet with great interest.

Ladbrokes to migrate online poker from Microgaming to iPoker

In a deepening of its existing relationship with Playtech, Ladbrokes has announced that it will “in due course” move its online poker business from Microgaming (MPN) to Playtech’s iPoker network.

In a press release issued on Monday, Ladbrokes confirmed that it will launch the “full suite of Playtech products over time”, including online poker.

“[I]In accordance with our contractual commitments, we will continue to work with Microgaming… until we have agreed on an orderly transition, ”a spokesperson said in a statement to pokerfuse.

Initially, Ladbrokes will add a “Vegas” tab to its website and mobile products, which will provide access to Playtech casino products and games. This will later be joined by online poker, although no timeline has been announced.

Ladbrokes poker is currently one of the largest brands in the Microgaming network, operating a Gibraltar licensed dot.com room, Ladbrokes.DK in Denmark regulated, and one of the only rooms on Microgaming Spain under its LBApuestas brand.

Online poker has been a declining source of revenue for the company. The move to iPoker, which has recently grown thanks to the successful courtesy of well-known brands, aims to reinvigorate the online poker offering.

Industry rumors suggest this is a move Ladbrokes has been keen to make for some time, but has been hampered by Playtech’s close relationship with William Hill, Ladbrokes’ big competitor on the UK market.

Several states – including Illinois and New York – are moving forward with plans to offer lotteries over the Internet. This is on the heels of a Justice Department advisory that reverses a long-standing policy and declares that states are free to conduct online gambling within their borders.

The lottery issue came to the fore when the two states, both of which were moving forward with Internet lottery plans, sought clarification from the Department of Justice. The answer came two days before Christmas, when federal authorities declared that the Wire Act of 1961 – long considered a provision banning all gambling on the Internet – only prohibits sports betting.

“What this means is [that] states are now free to do just about anything they want,” says I. Nelson Rose, gambling analyst and law professor at Whittier. Rose says the Justice Department opinion was a Christmas gift from the Obama administration to cash-strapped states, which will raise hundreds of millions of dollars.

“There are over 44 lotteries in this country. They’re all looking to ‘Let’s get online immediately if we can’. They’re all looking at their state’s statutes,” Rose says.

1961 – The Interstate Wire Wager Act of 1961 prohibits betting on telecommunications systems that cross state lines or national borders.

2006 – The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 curbs the growth of online gambling by prohibiting companies from accepting payment for a bet or stake involving the use of the Internet. Online gambling sites, which previously generated around $6 billion a year from poker alone, are being driven underground.

2010 – Officials in New York and Illinois are lobbying the Justice Department to find out if existing laws could prevent them from selling lottery tickets online.

2012 – Following the call for clarification, the Department of Justice issues a lenient interpretation of the Wire Act of 1961, which states that bans on betting via telecommunications systems only apply to “gambling activities related to sports “. In effect, this means that states can allow online gambling as they see fit.

Illinois Lottery Director Michael Jones said Illinois residents should be able to purchase tickets online for Lotto and MegaMillions games in early spring and for Powerball in the near future.

“The problem here is very simple. All the state legislature wanted was for the lottery to reflect people’s buying habits with the type of retail channel that everyone uses to buy plane tickets, books and concert tickets,” Jones said.

With such a huge need for revenue, states are also wondering if the decision means they can offer other games, like online poker. It has already been legalized in Washington, DC, along with internet bingo and blackjack.

University of Illinois professor John Kindt is against such an expansion and calls the Justice Department’s opinion outrageous. He says internet gambling will take money out of the consumer economy and is like pouring gasoline on the recession. It’s a problem that will create bankruptcies, crime and new addicted players, he says.

“It will put the game in every living room, every office and every school desk,” says Kindt. “People will literally be able to click their mouse, lose their home.”

But Frank Fahrenkopf, CEO of the American Gaming Association, says protections can be put in place – and already have been in places like Britain and France, where internet gambling is allowed. .

“We’ve been able to see, with the regulatory reforms they’ve put in place, that it can be provided in a very safe way to protect underage children from online access and gambling, and you can provide, by following , a big help for those who can gamble responsibly,” says Fahrenkopf.

Farenkopf says it’s no longer a question of whether there will be Internet gambling in the United States, but how.

Ladbrokes launches online poker in Italy

0

Online poker network Microgaming launched its service in Italy yesterday with Ladbrokes Poker the first operator to go live on the market.

The company has received its license from the regulatory body AMA and works with local businesses to ensure a personalized experience for Italian poker players. Negotiations for other Microgaming online poker rooms to enter the now regulated market are ongoing.

The Italian poker market saw frenetic activity in 2009, with regulations allowing companies to offer poker tournaments to players.

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, said: “In the months ahead, we are confident that we have the right resources and alliances in place to support our operators and help them succeed. Italy is an important region for the future of gambling in Europe, as it has set the standard for other countries wishing to introduce gambling regulations; it is a crucial gateway to the further enlargement of the EU. We remain committed to the Italian market and want to play our part in helping our licensees take full advantage of the opportunities there and beyond.

Mattia Nicelli, of Ladbrokes Italia, added: “Drawing on its wealth of global and local expertise, as well as its technological prowess, Microgaming has tailored its services in a way that meets our specific needs, as we are competing in the competitive Italian market. ”
