The move towards the white market will certainly have a positive effect on how poker is viewed in society as well.It is fair to say that the regulation of online gambling in Ukraine, including online poker, has fallen under the radar of many in the industry.
The Gaming and Lotteries Regulatory Commission (KRAIL) began issuing the first licenses to regulate online casinos in February of this year. To date, the regulator lists eleven licensed operators for online casino games. Three approvals included for online poker.
Perhaps the most notable was GGPoker, which celebrated its license approval for online poker last month. But it wasn’t the first to do so: VBet, offering online poker powered by BetConstruct, received the first such license in June; PokerMatch, one of the region’s leading online poker rooms, was licensed in July.
Despite this triplet of approvals, none have yet been licensed in the country. Traders are waiting for a key bill, known as 2713-d, to unify tax rules. Critical decisions lie with legislators to ensure a viable system.
“The main points discussed by parliamentarians now are the correlation of license payment and GGR, as well as the tax on earnings ”, explained Viktor Kirichenko, CEO of PokerMatch Ukraine, in an exclusive interview with PRO.
